Candidate for Partnership: Slavuta Municipality
The Slavuta Municipality spans over 27 mi² in the west of Ukraine and includes the city of Slavuta (established in 1617) and the towns of Varvarivka and Holyky with the population totaling 36,330 residents. In the last two years Slavuta has welcomed over three and a half thousand of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are Ukrainian citizens fleeing their homes in other regions of the country affected by the ongoing war.
The rivers Horyn and Utka flow through the area providing picturesque waterways. A major highway connects the area to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv only 197mi to the east, and major cities Rivne 46mi and Khmelnytskyi 73mi away. A railway offers additional mode of transportation for both passengers and goods.
Slavuta is an important industrial center in the greater northwestern region. The municipality’s economy is based on the following industries—furniture making, ceramic sanitary ware, textiles, workwear, and foodstuffs production.
Slavuta has an excellent network of educational institutions that include nine preschools, nine grade schools, and two lyceums providing vocational education.
The Children's Art House, Young Technicians Station, Children's & Youth Center for Tourism and Environmental Work, and the Children's & Youth Sports School offer young residents opportunities for additional educational, cultural, and physical development.
