Candidate for Partnership: Petrivtsi Municipality
The Petrivtsi Municipality comprises the towns of Novi Petrivtsi as the administrative center, along with Stari Petrivtsi, Liutizh, and Huta-Mezhyhirska. It is conveniently located just five miles north of the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, on the banks of the beautiful Dnipro River and is connected to the rest of the country by a major highway. The main river of the country widens here significantly and is often referred to lovingly as the 'Kyiv Sea.'
With a population of over 15,000 residents, two-thirds of whom fall within the age range of eighteen to fifty-nine, the municipality enjoys a vibrant economic life. 248 enterprises and 843 individual entrepreneurs are registered within the municipality.
The Petrivtsi Municipality leadership and community are interested in establishing and advancing a partnership as well as working on joint projects in various areas. These may include the improvement of transport infrastructure and a centralized sewage system, as well as enhancement of the educational network, social infrastructure, and cultural institutions.
All municipal enterprises under the city's authority are fully capable and enthusiastic about supporting the establishment and growth of a partnership with an American city. These entities include the Vodokanal Municipal Enterprise, responsible for water supply and sewage, as well as all municipal educational institutions, the Cultural Services Center (overseeing sports, culture, leisure activities, clubs, and amateur performances), and the Youth Parliament.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that began on February 24, 2022, the Novi Petrivtsi has suffered considerable destruction—twenty-six houses stock destroyed, over a hundred and fourty damaged or severely damaged, two objects of social infrastructure were damaged; two industrial facilities severely damaged.
Over three thousand people have been forced to leave the area. Over fifteen hundred people have arrived from other Ukrainian regions either occupied or under attack. Over fourteen hundred children have lost access to education. The community has suffered scores of rocket attacks, over two hundred artillery attacks, and hundreds of air raids.
