Candidate for Partnership: Tiachiv Municipality

The Tiachiv Municipality is located in western Ukraine on the border with Romania and close to Hungary and comprises five localities: the town of Tiachiv and four villages—Okruhla, Ruske Pole, Lazy, and Tiachivka.

The Tiachiv Municipality’s leadership hopes to establish a partnership with an American city and have short- and long-term projects in the areas of local economic development, education, tourism, culture, sports, and humanitarian aid.

Currently, the municipality is home to three factories with foreign investment. One specializes in producing raw materials for furniture (with a U.S. investor), another in clothing production (with an Italian investor), and the third in manufacturing fuel briquettes (with a Hungarian investor). In addition to these, the town accommodates numerous small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as private entrepreneurs. Horticulture, particularly apple and plum cultivation, is well-established in the vicinity of Tiachiv.

Historically, the town has been home to three churches: Reformed, Roman Catholic, and Greek Catholic.

There are three comprehensive schools in the town, one of which offers instruction in the Hungarian language. Additionally, there is a private school called 'Shchaslyve Misto,' which translates to 'Happy Town.' Tiachiv is also home to the Tiachiv Vocational Lyceum, which provides training in various trades and professions, including locksmithing, computer operation, and culinary arts.
